A Rigorous Geometric Model Considering Lateral Inclination Variety for High-resolution Satellite Imagery

Abstract: According to the mechanism of uniform variety of CCD linear array lateral inclination in remote sensor during imaging, the rigorous geometric model based on affine transformation for high- resolution satellite imagery was ameliorated, and both the positive formulas from image to object and the negative ones from quite the contrary were presented. A stereo pair of SPOT-5 imagery acquired in across-track mode was selected and tested. Compared with the primitive model which considers the CCD lateral inclination as a constant, the ameliorated geometric model improves the x-coordinate accuracy of image points, raises significantly the height accuracy of object space coordinates and the planimetry accuracy is in accordance with that of the primitive one. These empirical results show that CCD array lateral inclination variety during imaging is an important factor in the rigorous geometric model for high-resolution satellite imagery.
